You've probably never really thought about it and let's face it - it really is of no interest but why do web developers drink so much coffee?

Fancy a coffee?
I think programmers like to drink coffee, because for them it's a symbol of concentration. And programmers definitely need to concentrate in order to convert some non-trivial idea into working code.
Once they place a good cup of hot coffee next to their computer, they make it clear to anyone else around them and themselves as well, that their concentration period just begins and it will take around 15 - 30 minutes. It's a ritual. You never go to disturb anyone who just sits down with his cup of coffee, do you?
Is it Java?
A lot of programmers do love coffee a lot. Some like it so much that they named one of the most popular programming languages on coffee. James Gosling and others named Java (programming language) after coffee. Have a look at the Java logo.
Some programmers have rituals to get into a Flow state. Right keyboard, correct coffee, the correct distance from the keyboard, the perfect text editor and window manager configuration, all ready to get back into the project just as you left it.
